about

This song is in a style I entitled Punk Mambo! It was written in Sutton Place NYC between 52 and 51 street on 1st ave. Susan and I we're dining at a Mexican restaurant and after one two many Margarita cocktails. Susan and I left the restaurant and started banging out some latin rhythms on the trash cans along the curb while singing out load. This is how Shake Up the Neighbourhood was conceived. It was the first song I had a part in creating. Vince came around the next day and we finished writing and arranging Shake, and we recorded it the day after.

lyrics

Shake Up the Neighborhood

Words and music by: Susan Rickey, Vince Conigliaro, Tony Natale.

We're gonna shake, shake, shake,
Shake up the neighbourhood.
Walking down the street, in a new neighbourhood.
Looking like ourselves, and we look real good.
Looking just like we know we should.
Giving all the strangers a great big smile,
Walking down the street in a single file.

Everybody here seems to cut us down.
The grocery man he begins to shout.
Owners of the restaurant said "Throw them out"
Everybody doesn't like our style.
Walking down the street in single file.

One, two, one, two, three,
we're gonna shake,
we're gonna shake,
we're gonna shake,
Shake up the neighbourhood.

East side, sky rise, ugh rise, brown.
Must have come from the wrong side of town.
Woman in the window likes to put us down.
Watch out grandma, girls and boys,
Plug in our guitars and make some noise.

One, two, one, two, three,
We're gonna shake, shake,
Shake up the neighbourhood.

Strutting on the street, don't take a ride,
Call the limousine, surprise, surprise
Daddy tells momma, "they must be high"
Watch out grandma, girls and boys,
Plug in our guitars and make some noise.

shake, Shake, Shake up the neighbourhood.
Come on now, don't tell daddy.
